MERV PINNY
From the rolling farmlands of rural New Zealand to the global music stage, Merv Pinny’s story is one of grit, resilience, and raw rock ‘n’ roll spirit. Once a hardworking dairy farmer, Merv’s life has been marked by dramatic twists of fate — surviving being run over by a truck as a child and later defying the odds after a motorbike accident left him with a broken spine and doctors questioning if he would ever walk again. Not only did Merv walk again — he soared, transforming himself into a powerhouse rock and blues artist whose soulful voice and infectious, rhythm-driven sound have captivated audiences worldwide.
A nominee at the prestigious New Zealand Vodafone Music Awards, Merv traded farm life for the stage, dedicating himself completely to his craft. His electrifying blend of rock, blues, and roots music has racked up over 30 million streams and views, earning him a loyal global following of over 340,000 fans. His music — often fearless and socially conscious — has won accolades in the USA and beyond, with standout performances at renowned events such as the LA Music Awards, Tamworth Festival, the Brew of Islands Festival, and countless festivals across New Zealand. In the last three years alone, he has achieved five international songwriting semi-finalist spots.
A true independent force, Merv writes, produces, and shoots his own music videos in his homeland, sending his unmistakable sound across continents. His recent releases have topped internet radio charts in the USA, Brazil, and South Africa, climbed to #4 on Canada’s iTunes Rock Chart, and secured top 20 spots on New Zealand’s Alternative Rock Charts.
Believing deeply in the power of music to bring people together, Merv also champions emerging talent in New Zealand’s Far North through his M Music Studio. His initiative, The Local Launch Pad, provides a springboard for local artists to reach wider audiences and build their own fanbases.
With a fresh new sound leaning deeper into blues, roots, and funky rock, Merv Pinny continues to push musical boundaries while staying true to the authenticity and energy that have made him a Kiwi rock icon on the rise.
